The Actress Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen polarizing arguments and increase separation across the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures do not make a difference in any way on voter decisions.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about supporting conservative and liberal contenders over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
In 2015, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was highlighted by the outcome.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” noted the actress about his leadership. “As he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
New Release
Lawrence is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, Lawrence addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is no less than a genocide and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she remarked, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment signed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her part in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has disputed the plot being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.
“It was fear about my child,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a medication called that medicine and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
The actor also mentioned of the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
