Performer Denies Anti-Vax Stance Following Voicing Disputed Pandemic Feature
The acclaimed actor has provided his vocal talents to a feature-length documentary that challenges the safety of immunizations and praises former government figure RFK Jr.
The Feature's Disputed Basis
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is inspired by a well-known publication co-authored by a controversial scientist, who rose to infamy during the global outbreak for allegations that the illness was a result of a faulty batch of the seasonal immunization.
Her writing partner, a producer, has also written books with far-right radio host a known commentator. Heckenlively wrote online hailing Neeson's role in the documentary.
A Firm Rebuttal
Representatives for Liam Neeson have issued a statement pushing back against claims that he holds anti-vax sentiments.
"Everyone can acknowledge that corruption may occur within the pharmaceutical industry, but that should never be confused with opposition to vaccines," the statement states. "Liam has never been, and cannot be described as, against vaccines. His considerable work with Unicef underscores his enduring support for global immunisation initiatives."
The response continued that the performer had no hand in the project's editorial content and that concerns about its claims should be directed to the producers.
Major Claims In the Film
As presented, the script spoken by Neeson features several provocative points:
- It suggests that pro-vaccine voices have demanded "unconditional submission" to government bodies.
- It argues that "medical science has become deeply influenced by politics."
- Kennedy is shown stating, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they simply are not adequately tested."
- The narration takes aim at stay-at-home orders, saying they caused psychological harm that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it mentions a perspective that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "risky trials."
Previous Controversy and Recent Debates
The documentary includes a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was afterwards the focus of a correction by the corporation for violations of guidelines.
Recently, the political figure instructed the Centers for Disease Control to change its official position that there is no link between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This assertion is echoed in the documentary, contrary to a new report from the World Health Organisation stating no evidence has been found.
A Previous Position of Support
Differing from the film's message, Neeson has in the past shown clear advocacy for vaccines in his role as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Previously, he described vaccines as "an extraordinary achievement," noting that "The discourse about vaccines in recent years has overlooked how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in history."
The film ends with Neeson's voice proclaiming, "This isn't the finish of our journey. Rather, it is the start of a new chapter."
