Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading offensive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Involving the Striker and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
