HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Next Sooner Than Planned on HBO's Digital Service

Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, that's been receiving positive feedback and drawing from themes from additional King stories. Now, the network has revealed that episode two will debut sooner than expected, timed perfectly for the spookiest night.

Early Release Information

Kicking off on October 31 at midnight PT, the next part of the Derry prequel will premiere on the streaming service, ahead of its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the show's first season will premiere on the weekend on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the final episode on December 14th.

Storyline Summary

Based in the Derry mythology, It: Welcome to Derry is inspired by the original story while enlarging the world realized by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. The original It centered on kids and teens battling supernatural evils, making it appropriate that the series continues that tradition. Yet, the debut of the streaming show proves it intended to raise the stakes, offering heightened horror than the cinematic versions and establishing a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Set in 1962, the series features a fresh cast of adults and children living in a outwardly charming locale hiding a evil heart. The town operates on a brutal, periodic loop—one marked by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a terrifying being resurfaces once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might sound like it skews too close to the movies initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its dual perspective—narrated via the viewpoints of young and old at the same time. Younger characters are particularly vulnerable to the entity's fear, but older characters aren’t spared confronting their individual fears stemming from local discrimination and lurking supernatural forces.

The series airs on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
