A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
